AUDIT

Surveillance Audit

A Surveillance Audit is a periodic audit conducted to verify that an organisation’s certified management system continues to comply with the requirements of the applicable standard and remains effectively implemented and maintained. The audit focuses on the ongoing effectiveness of the management system, continual improvement initiatives, and the organisation’s ability to consistently meet statutory, regulatory, and customer requirements.

The Scope

The audit covers selected processes, functions, departments, and activities within the scope of certification, with particular focus on key management system elements, operational controls, corrective actions, management review, internal audits, risk management, and continual improvement. Over the certification cycle, all applicable areas of the management system are reviewed through surveillance activities.

The Frequency

Surveillance Audits are typically conducted annually during the certification cycle following the successful completion of the Initial Certification Audit. The frequency may vary depending on the applicable certification scheme, accreditation requirements, and the organisation’s risk profile. Surveillance audits are generally performed in the first and second years of the certification cycle, followed by a Recertification Audit in the third year.
